Reporting To:   Vice President, Marketing & Community Investments

Status:   Exempt

Overall Purpose of this Role:

Responsible for brand management and oversight of the Marketing Department including organizational positioning, strategic planning, media relations and campaign communications.

Experience developing strategic marketing concepts including organizational positioning and planning.

Knowledge of economic, demographic and other l trends that impact both for -profit and not- for -profit organizations.

Knowledge and experience of management trends and techniques - both with staff and volunteers.

Experience with balancing budgets.

Experience in creative development printed.

Experience in managing public relations.

Communicating and Influencing

Facilitation expertise (for small and large groups).

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Strong presentation skills.

Ability to provide leadership to, recruit, manage, develop, motivate and organize both staff and volunteers.

Key Accountabilities:

 Lead and manage the implementation of the marketing plan.

Create and manage the marketing department work plan and budget.

Supervise, develop and evaluate the marketing staff.

Develop and coordinate and communicate organizational messaging and educate all key constituents of its usage.

Track, manage and evaluate plan implementation.

Pursue strategic alliances, partnerships and co-marketing opportunities.

Strategize on market segmentation activities.

Act as final editor and provide final approvals on marketing and communication deliverables.

Leverage branding efforts of United Way of America.

Provide issues, media and marketing counsel to senior management.

Oversee and manage fundraising events Edit/supervise in the production of PR tools, including:

Online communications
Press releases
Press kits

Supervise all vendor assignments and contracts.

Manage production of assigned collateral.

Supervise the development, execution, production and placement of advertising.

Supervision and Working Relations:

Position works under the direction of the Vice President, Community Investments & Marketing.

Position Supervises the Manager, Public Relations, the Graphics Specialist & Event Consultant (s).

Education and Training Required for this Position:

BA in a business related field is required. Minimum of five years in a management position managing a multifaceted complex organization, with an emphasis on marketing. Progressive professional experience than demonstrates required knowledge and abilities. Non profit experience preferred.

Technical Knowledge:

Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office 2007 (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

Physical Demands: (Include travel)

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Director, Marketing. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, twist, lean, move from one location to another and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to operate a computer keyboard, and lift files and reports. Exposure to glare from a computer.

Work Environment:

These work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the Director, Marketing will encounter.The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
