The most successful fund development professionals know about the importance of developing relationships with donors and prospective donors. An important part of developing lasting relationships with people is the ability to talk to anyone about almost anything – the economy, sports, the arts, politics, current events, fashion, etc. Our speaker today is truly a renaissance man and will address your personal development as a fund development professional. Your fundraising rebirth awaits you.

Meet the (Former) Foundation Program Officers

Two of Southern California’s premier program officers from two major California foundations will provide us with a candid presentation on how foundations work today, how they make funding decisions, how important are relationships in getting funded, how fair is the process, and why does it take so long? Bring your questions as well.

Guest Speaker: Jerry Yu

Jerry previously served as a program officer at the Weingart Foundation in Los Angeles. In 2007, he was appointed the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations at California State University, Fullerton. He has also served as the executive director of the Science Factory Children’s Museum in Eugene, Oregon and the Korean American Coalition in Los Angeles. Jerry earned a bachelor of science degree in political economy at U.C. Berkeley.

Guest Speaker: Jose Marquez

Jose Marquez has nearly 25 years of service in the nonprofit sector including: Founding Executive Director of the Nonprofit Resource Center serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and Program Officer for The California Endowment. He now serves as the Director of Development for the Riverside/San Bernardino Community Foundation

Special Note: Due to the policies of Turnip Rose, AFP must provide our meeting guarantee by noon on the Friday before a meeting. We will be assessed a service charge for late reservation/walk-in lunches. Turnip Rose strives to provide us with the best quality service and has asked for our cooperation. Reservations received after the Friday 12 noon deadline, including walk-ins at the meeting, will be assessed a $10 late fee.
