Luncheon Session 12 noon

"Running Low - Nonprofit organizations search for the best ways to ride out a rough economy."

Join fellow Orange County AFP chapter members in a group discussion on the challenges facing fundraising in declining economic conditions.  Learn what is working in the areas of event sponsorships, individual solicitations, pledged gifts, volunteer recruitment, corporate donations, and campaigns.  What do you and your organization need to prepare for in the months and years ahead if private and public philanthropy cannot support the region’s charitable needs?

Fundraising Fundamentals 10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Creative Uses of Insurance in Charitable Giving

He will cover insurance as compared to other gifts, reasons why insurance is not utilized more as a charitable gift, and introduce you to a number of ways to add a pro-active insurance program to your fund raising activities.

Guest Speaker: Sidney (Sid) Nicoll, J.D

Sid came to California in 1977 to serve as an in-house estate planning attorney for an insurance broker in Torrance, California. Since 1978, he has had his own business providing businesses with benefit programs for employees, special programs (perks) for key employees, and personal financial planning. In the past five years he has added programs using insurance as a charitable gift to his company’s services. He now has about fifteen different ways to incorporate insurance into charitable giving, and will discuss some of them in this session. He has presented this program at AFP meetings of the LA and Inland Empire chapters.
In addition to his business activities, Sid has also been busy as an adjunct instructor, teaching courses in insurance, business law, personal financial planning and benefit plans at Long Beach State, Long Beach City College and National University. He is now teaching courses on various legal subjects at the Irvine University College of Law.
Sid has a B.S. in Journalism from the School of Communications of Boston University and received his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law of Pennsylvania State University. He is admitted to practice before the Massachusetts and Federal Bars.
