Luncheon Presentation - Noon

On the EDGE: An Optimists View of Life After the Great Recession
Shannon Barnes

From 1929 to 1939, the world was caught in the grasp of the Great Depression. It was the longest and most severe depression ever experienced by the industrialized Western world. But in the years that followed, particularly after World War II, the world experienced the largest, most rapid, and most global expansion of industrial growth and wealth. Hard times led to new innovations, new approaches, new capacities, and new ways of doing things.

About the Speaker:

Shannon Barnes is a Senior Advisor with The EDGE Group, an organization that helps community and faith-based charities, churches, and schools strengthen their leaders and boards, define a clear and innovative strategic course, and raise the funds needed to act. Prior to joining EDGE, Shannon was an executive for a multi-national manufacturer, a customer service manager for a financial services company, and spent more than a decade as a pastor, strategist, and communications director for two growing churches. He has extensive experience in strategy, leadership, board development, conflict resolution, branding and communications, and the ability to organize complex relationships into highly productive and mission-oriented teams. Shannon and his wife Christina have 5 children. He is a long-time member of the Gary Bonner Singers and a board member of the Association of Professional Consultants.

Fundraising Fundamentals - 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Fundraising Ethics, Donor's Rights, and Institutional Policies
Jim Greenfield and Frank Hall

Fundraising practice requires adherence to high standards of professional conduct based on ethical principles. When circumstances arise that do not fit these guidelines, you have met an “ethical dilemma.” How do you resolve this matter? What are the guidelines for ethical decision-making? Where do corporate compliance policies apply? Is there an equation or formula that will yield an ethically correct decision for you and/or your organization?

This session will examine how the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards offers guidelines to resolution. Answers also are available from the Donor Bill of Rights and from corporate compliance policies. One or more “ethical dilemmas” will be explored to illustrate the decision-making process.

About the Speakers:

Presented by Jim Greenfield and Frank Hall, two consummate professionals in our field with great understanding and appreciation of the ethical standards that nonprofit organizations demand.
